Thailand approves 35% tax on imported electric cars
Confirmed
Thailand’s cabinet approved a 35% excise tax on imported battery-electric and range-extender cars from 1 January 2027. The finance ministry says the current rate is 10% for battery-electric cars and 15% for range-extender cars. The higher tax could raise costs for XPeng’s Thai distributor, which sells the G6, X9 and L03. The effect will depend on the final rules, including how investment incentives and local assembly are treated. At the L03’s launch in August, XPeng vice-president James Wu said XPeng would decide on a factory in Thailand once the tax rules were clear. The distributor’s next prices will show what buyers pay.
