Methodology

How XPulse handles evidence.

What is kept apart

XPulse keeps visibly apart what a source reported, what management guided, what others forecast, what XPulse calculated and what XPulse interprets. Translations link the original, opinion is marked as such, and where XPeng's Chinese and English differ, the Chinese stands. XPulse publishes no buy or sell recommendation and no price target of its own. Its one estimate is the earnings preview: a quarter's figures before XPeng reports them, labelled as XPulse's, with their range and what would test them. Vehicle sales come from the cars XPeng has reported at recent prices after discounts, averaged with where XPeng's own forecast points; every other line is XPulse's own call against earlier quarters, and the ranges are the middle 80% of 20,000 runs. Tested on six earlier quarters, the build was typically about 3.3% off, more often too high.

Sources and confidence

Every source carries a tier. A tier says where the evidence came from, not how certain a conclusion drawn from it is.

TierWhat it covers
PrimaryXPeng and its filings, named executives on the record, governments, regulators and official registers.
PartnerOfficial local distributors, importers and partners.
MediaEstablished publications with editorial standards.
CommunityDealers, forums, social posts and owner reports: signals, never confirmation.
Confidence
ConfirmedBacked by a Primary or Partner source.
ReportedReported by established media, or first-hand by a reliable source close to XPeng.
UnconfirmedA single or weak source, published only when clearly labelled and relevant.

History is preserved

Changes are recorded, never overwritten, and a missing figure stays visibly missing; nothing is interpolated.

Technology and factories

A track shows a few chosen steps, evenly spaced rather than to a time scale; a plan or target records when it was set and never counts as progress. A factory's capacity is shown in layers, never as one number, and a line's rate or a count of body sets is never turned into cars a year; what a plant shares with other makers is the whole plant's, never XPeng's share. “By” before a date means a step was reported done by that day. Cars built for sale in China are the industry ministry's (MIIT) dual-credit count.

Markets

Direct sales means XPeng, or a national company it controls, runs import and distribution; retail may still go through independent dealers. Distributor means an independent company holds the national rights, and is named. Parallel imports never make a country an XPeng market.

On sale since is the first official availability: orders open with local terms, else the first verified local sales or showroom, else the first delivery; never the day an entry was announced.

A country page’s prices are the lowest a buyer pays now for each model, from XPeng’s store or the market’s own site; its network counts what XPeng’s store finder lists there. In China a trim's standard wait is what XPeng's order page shows when it is opened, its range the shortest to longest quote across its options.

Registrations and deliveries

Registrations come from the national register or statistics office where one publishes by brand, else the importers' association or a named tracker. A change such as year-on-year shows only when every month it needs is on file; † marks a month XPulse calculated from the source's totals; a limited figure, marked *, counts in a total but in no comparison.

Monthly exports (cars and kits, on CPCA's basis) are CPCA's wholesale of XPeng cars less China's retail sales for the same month, by model too: not overseas registrations, since kits are assembled abroad and cars take weeks to reach buyers. The newest month shows XPeng's own overseas figure until CPCA's count replaces it. XPeng's deliveries above CPCA's wholesale count as neither China nor exports and are shown apart.

In China, XPeng's and each model's sales are CPCA's retail count; where its list leaves XPeng out, its wholesale less the exports it states. The market is CPCA's retail sales of new-energy cars with CPCA's own change; XPeng's share is XPulse arithmetic, retail over retail.

In the Market Monthly a record is a market's best month where at least 12 are on file. In the China Monthly, carmakers' changes are XPulse arithmetic on the retail CPCA states (its list starts at 20,000 a month).

Financial figures

The reported figures on Financials come from XPeng's own results release for each period, as filed with the SEC: none adjusted or estimated, no non-GAAP or analyst number among them. Cash flow comes from the annual and interim reports. XPulse arithmetic, labelled as such: services' gross profit at the margin XPeng states, vehicles' as the remainder; net cash, the cash position less borrowings (loans, not leases); free cash flow, cash from operations less spending on property and equipment. Guidance is the range XPeng gave; a finished quarter is below, within or above it, and for one still running XPulse only works out what the remaining months would need, never whether it is on track.

Display currency. The USD setting converts each amount at its own rate: the period average for flows, the day's rate for balances, the issue day's rate for guidance. Rates are the Federal Reserve's (DEXCHUS, DEXHKUS), stored so a figure never drifts. Share prices, growth rates, analysts' targets, amounts a filing states, counts and ratios never convert.

Stock and market data

Prices are delayed public quotes, labelled with their time, not prices to trade on. A session with no reported volume is a gap, never a zero. XPulse draws no trading signal from the 52-week range or the moving averages. Market value and valuation ratios use XPeng's latest share count and figures, and each month end in the history is valued only on what was public that day.

The volume meter compares the average volume of the latest 3 and 20 completed sessions with the 100 sessions before the latest 20, each listing against its own history: trading activity, not sentiment.

Options data show contracts traded (volume) and positions open at the close (open interest), not who traded or why; a put/call ratio below 1 means more calls than puts. New York's open interest before 24 September 2026 is Barchart's daily total.

Short activity is positions still open: New York's short interest twice a month (FINRA) and Hong Kong's reported positions each week (SFC: from HK$30 million or 0.02% of the market value, whichever is less). Each also shows as a share of the free float, one ADS counted as two, and the two add on that basis, each at its own latest date; changes compare the report nearest a month and a year earlier. Days to cover is the position over average daily volume (XPulse's arithmetic for Hong Kong, over the ten sessions before the report), no timetable for buying back. The free float is XPulse's estimate: the Class A shares not held by the founder, directors, executives or Volkswagen. Hong Kong's daily short sales (HKEX) are turnover, not positions. The Short interest page adds Hong Kong's daily short selling back to the 2021 listing (sessions before 27 July 2026 from Eastmoney's record of HKEX's figures, identical on every session checked) and what Interactive Brokers could lend at each close and at what yearly fee: one broker's own figures, not the market's. None of it establishes sentiment or predicts the price.

Ownership rests on three reports, never added or ranked together. A 13F is a US-reporting manager's quarterly list of New York ADSs and certain options: no short positions, not its whole stake, overlaps possible. Hong Kong's shareholder notices show legal interests at the last notice, not live holdings: client business, lending pools and derivatives count, long and short are never netted, and below 5% the notices may stop. A change does not establish a trade; a bank's position may be its clients' or a hedge. Holder percentages use the shares in issue at the report's date. Founder control leaves out unvested awards; Class B has ten votes a share, one on reserved matters.

Analysts. XPulse records which firm said what, when, with what rating and target, linked to where it was read; no note is reproduced, earlier targets are never overwritten, and analysts are not ranked.

Live stories and automatic flags

A development followed as it happens is marked Live for 24 hours after its latest update; updates can go up automatically, each with its time and source: XPeng's own statements, their figures checked by script, first-hand accounts from named people, and context from XPulse's records.

Two items appear by themselves, labelled as automatic: a Big move flag when either listing is 10% or more up or down on the day, and an Unusual options item when one contract's open interest rises by 10,000 or more in a session.

The Management page's tracker sets out what XPeng's management said it would do, in its own words, with what happened beside it as a fact, never a score or a verdict; a restated statement keeps every dated version. The statements above it, and the newest on the front page, are automatic too: each line is an AI tool's one-sentence summary of a post on Weibo, X or XPeng's forum, or a remark reported elsewhere, linked to where it was read and not reviewed item by item.

Upcoming

Upcoming lists only dates someone has named: Confirmed is XPeng’s own word, Partner a distributor’s, regulator’s or organiser’s, Reported the press, the outlet named, Expected XPulse’s own expectation from a pattern. Each date is added by an AI routine from the source its label names.

Workflow, responsibility and corrections

I (Valdis, XPulse’s author) use AI tools to help with research, structure, wording, translation and the technical development of XPulse. They support my work; I make the editorial decisions and judge what the evidence supports. I review, edit and fact-check articles, assessments and original research before publication, and remain responsible for what XPulse publishes.

Some updates appear automatically. News resting on XPeng’s own release alone goes up once a script has checked its date and every figure against that release, in the Chinese original too where there is one, and I review it afterwards; anything needing an editorial decision, such as a change to a market’s status, waits for my review. Executives’ statements, data refreshes, automatic flags, live updates and the dates on Upcoming run under the rules on this page and are not approved by me one by one.

Early reports can be incomplete or wrong. Material mistakes are corrected visibly, and the data's history is kept. New sections and changes to a figure's source or measure are listed on the Changelog. If you see an error, please report it.

Map

Country shapes come from Natural Earth (public domain) and imply no position on any boundary. XPulse's market count may differ from XPeng's own total of “countries and regions”.

What the abbreviations mean
ADS
American depositary share, the unit XPEV trades in New York; each is two Class A shares.
13F
the report of the shares it holds that a large US fund manager files each quarter, within 45 days of the quarter's end.
