XPeng becomes the carmakers' secretary on a new UN automated-driving task force
Confirmed
XPeng says it is now the carmakers' secretary on a new United Nations task force (TF-ESRI) where regulators and industry share real-world experience of automated driving, such as road conditions, safety performance and incident investigations. The task force belongs to the UN's working party on automated and connected vehicles, and XPeng says France and China co-chair it. XPeng's part, it says, is supporting coordination and administration for OICA, the carmakers' international association, alongside a second secretary from the engineering body SAE International; China's carmakers' association, which XPeng represents in OICA, backs the appointment. XPeng links the work to the UN's new rules for cars that drive themselves in defined conditions, UN Regulation 185 and Global Technical Regulation 26. In July it said the regulation should speed approvals of Robotaxis, and that its NGP driver assistance in cities comes under a separate UN rule for driver assistance (R171).
