Volkswagen’s XPeng Turing-powered ID. UNYX 08 tops 1,000 sales in September

Reported

Volkswagen sold 1,188 ID. UNYX 08s in China in September, 213% more than August’s 379 and up from 133 in July, by the China Passenger Car Association’s count; its retail and wholesale figures for the month are the same. The rise came in the month Volkswagen Anhui refreshed the range, on 12 September, cutting the entry price by 17.4% to a limited-time RMB189,900 and adding a sportier Lieying edition. The UNYX 08 is the first Volkswagen with XPeng’s driving software and Turing chips on board, after the ID. UNYX 07, which uses the electronic architecture the two developed together. Every version has driver assistance running on XPeng’s VLA model, which the driver must supervise, and two Turing AI chips, so September’s cars carried 2,376 of the chips between them (XPulse arithmetic). The next with them, the ID. UNYX 09, has one Turing chip; it opened pre-sales on 24 September and is due to launch in late October.
