The third MONA is here, and MONA stores may come next

Confirmed

XPeng opened pre-sales for the MONA L05 on 15 October, at RMB169,800 to RMB191,800 in five trims. The large five-seat SUV is the L03’s bigger sibling, close to the G9 in size, and it launches on 29 October. President Wang Fengying says MONA stores could open beside XPeng’s own in some Chinese cities in 2027.

A bigger MONA, from RMB169,800

The L05 is the third MONA car, after the M03 sedan and the L03 SUV, and the largest. It comes battery-electric or with a range extender, and the pre-sale gives every trim and its price ahead of the launch on 29 October.

XPeng handed the evening to the young team that built the car. Nearly half of MONA’s product managers were born after 2000, He Xiaopeng, XPeng’s chairman and chief executive, wrote from Paris. They took the stage with the singer and actor Ouyang Nana, who works on MONA as a product manager.

XPeng’s pre-sale prices and ranges, 15 October 2026, on CLTC, China’s official test. The 535 carries a 58.2 kWh battery and the 635 a 71.1 kWh one; the range extender goes 310 km on its battery alone.

Every trim sits within the RMB200,000 He promised on 13 October. Buyers who order now pay a RMB1,000 deposit that counts as RMB3,000 off the price.

The L03’s bigger sibling

The L05 and the L03 were started together three years ago, says Jiang Wen, who runs the MONA range. They share a design language, created by Juan Ma López, a former Ferrari designer, with a styling team born after 2000. The L05 is the larger of the two: 22 cm longer than the L03, with a 9 cm longer wheelbase.

That brings the L05 close in size to the G9, XPeng’s flagship five-seater, with a lower, sleeker roofline.

From XPeng’s specification pages for China, 15 October 2026. The G6 row is the battery-electric car; with a range extender it is 4,771 mm long.

The longer body means more space inside. The boot holds 702 litres, against the L03’s 539, and battery cars add a 102-litre front boot. XPeng showed five people and nine suitcases in one car.

MONA, a range of its own

XPeng has delivered more than 350,000 MONA cars in the two years since the M03 went on sale, it said on the night. It says the M03 has been the best-selling electric sedan between RMB100,000 and RMB200,000 for 24 months running.

With a third car, MONA may get its own showrooms. At the Paris Motor Show on 12 October, XPeng’s president, Wang Fengying, told reporters that XPeng and MONA stores could stand side by side in some Chinese cities in 2027, the Chinese technology site ITheat reports. How far MONA goes on its own will depend on its range and its sales, she said.

Jiang Wen says the L05 will not hold back the L03. The two are built in completely different factories, with separate allocation and shipping, he wrote on 14 October, and the L03 is to reach full capacity in October. XPeng’s filings name its Guangzhou plant for the L05.

More as standard

Trim for trim, the L05 costs RMB26,000 more than the L03 did at its pre-sale in July, or RMB20,000 more with a range extender, on XPulse’s arithmetic. For that, much of what is extra on the L03 comes as standard.

On an L03, the adaptive dampers and front-seat massage alone cost RMB8,000 in options.

Every L05 also has a 26.8-inch head-up display. A 17.3-inch screen for the rear seats, which folds down from the roof, comes in an option pack with a double glass roof. XPeng will set out at the launch which trims carry its 20-speaker sound and a reclining “zero-gravity” passenger seat.

Every L05 runs NGP, XPeng’s advanced driver assistance, which the driver supervises. Max trims run a lighter version of VLA 2.0, XPeng’s AI driving model, on one of its own Turing chips; Ultra SE trims run the full model on two. More than half of MONA owners use driver assistance every day, XPeng says.

XPeng developed the L05 for 65 countries and regions, to the five-star crash-safety standards of China, Europe and Australia, and tested it over more than five million kilometres in 25 of them. Seventeen active safety functions are standard on every trim. XPeng plans to bring the L05 to Europe early in 2027.

How the L03 did after its pre-sale

The L03 had its own pre-sale in July, from RMB143,800. At its launch in Munich two weeks later, XPeng lowered every pre-sale price by RMB9,000 to RMB15,000 and added three Plus trims, which start from RMB123,800.

Orders reached a record after that launch, XPeng says, and more than 14,000 L03s were delivered in September. New L03 buyers still need to wait for months: XPeng’s order page shows 18 to 23 weeks for a battery-electric L03 and 11 to 16 weeks for one with a range extender.

XPulse’s reading: the L03 shows how fast a well-priced MONA can become one of XPeng’s best sellers. The L05 brings the same approach to a larger family SUV, at a higher price and with more as standard.

What comes next

The L05 launches on 29 October, with its final prices and the equipment of each trim. XPeng’s October deliveries are expected on 1 November. October is the first month of the quarter in which XPeng has challenged itself to pass 60,000 sales in a single month.
